Frequently asked questions

When is my tax return due?

The Inland Revenue Department usually sends individual tax returns in early May, and you normally have one month to file. If you run a business or are self-employed, you usually get extra time. Message us as soon as your return arrives and we’ll get started.

I’m a Foodpanda, Keeta or Uber rider or driver. Do I need to file?

In most cases, yes. Riders and drivers are usually self-employed, so your income and work expenses — like fuel, phone and vehicle costs — are reported differently from a salary. We’ll work out what applies to you and make sure the right deductions are claimed.

What documents do I need?

It depends on the service, and we’ll send you a simple checklist. Usually it’s your HKID and passport, any letters or forms you’ve received, and proof of income — such as the IR56B form from your employer, payslips or app earnings statements. Clear phone photos are fine to start.

My visa application was refused. Can you still help?

Yes. We’ll look at the reason it was refused, explain your options, and help you prepare a stronger reapplication or an appeal.

Do I need to visit your office?

No. Most things can be done over WhatsApp. If you’d rather meet in person, we can arrange an appointment in Kwun Tong.

How much does it cost?

It depends on what you need. Send us a few details on WhatsApp and we’ll tell you the fee before we start — no surprises.

Which languages do you speak?

English, Hindi, Nepali, Punjabi, Urdu and Bengali. Message us in whichever language is easiest for you.

Are you part of the government?

No. Roots Consultancy HK is an independent, private consultancy. We help you prepare applications to departments such as the Inland Revenue Department and the Immigration Department, but the final decision is always theirs.
